Farmers & Ranchers
Learn how to manage your stress, process your emotions, and slow down for your health.
Weather
Weather can make or break farming. Weather events like floods, droughts, tornadoes, high winds can easily destroy crops, injure or even kill livestock, or damage stored products waiting to be sold. During extreme weather, even the family’s home or equipment can be damaged, as operators often have little time to mitigate the storm's effects.
Long Work Hours
The work never stops. At a farm there is always something to do, and it is high stakes. Farmers and ranchers can't just "put it off til tomorrow" when it involves livestock or harvesting.
Ag Economy
The agricultural economy can be highly volatile. Prices fluctuate based on global supply, demand, trade patterns, and other large-scale economic trends. Farming and ranching income is inconsistent and unpredictable for both the operation and the family, adding another layer of stress to an already demanding industry.
Finances
Land, machinery, livestock, annual operating costs (pesticides, vaccines, and feed) all require a substantial amount of money.
In addition, farmers and ranchers must also contend with unexpected expenses from machinery breakdowns to sick animals.
