Anxiety & Trauma
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
"I can't shut my brain off", "I overthink everything". Sound like you? Generalized anxiety can involve overthinking, restlessness, irritability, difficulty relaxing, and difficulty focusing because the worries are so hard to control.
Posttraumatic Stress
PTSD can occur when you are blaming yourself for a traumatic event that happened, feel guilt or shame about it, and are feeling "stuck" from healing from the traumatic event(s). You may feel numb, be more impulsive than before, abuse substances, avoid others, or have difficulty feeling your feelings.
Social Anxiety
Social anxiety is more than introversion or 'shyness'. Social anxiety is an intense fear of being judged by others, therefore social situations are highly distressing, sometimes so distressing that individuals will avoid them all together.
Aftermath of a Critical Incident
We hear about critical incidents (life threatening, high stress, unexpected tragedy) in the news all of the time, but experiencing one yourself has a very different impact. It is common after experiencing a critical incident to lose your appetite, have difficulty focusing, feel more anxious or on edge, be irritable, and fatigued. If left unattended, these symptoms can severely impact our functioning.
